The expansion of social media and the growing influence of celebrities on consumer decision-making have turned celebrity-based advertising into a significant challenge for consumer protection law in Iran. Advertisements relying on celebrities’ social credibility, particularly when containing misleading or false claims, may cause financial, physical, and moral damages to consumers. Despite this reality, Iranian law lacks explicit and independent regulations addressing the civil liability of celebrities in advertising, and legal analysis mainly relies on general principles of tort law.
This study adopts a descriptive–analytical method and examines the civil liability of celebrities in Iranian law based on principles such as prohibition of deception, the doctrine of reliance (), causation, and good faith. A comparative analysis is conducted with Turkish law as a legal system that has developed a relatively structured framework for regulating celebrity endorsements. The findings indicate that Turkish law, by recognizing celebrities as influential actors and emphasizing duties of care, transparency of commercial relationships, and joint liability, provides a more coherent model for consumer protection. The study concludes that adopting similar approaches could contribute to reforming Iranian regulations and strengthening civil remedies against misleading celebrity advertising
